The beautiful and idyllic village of Hurst Green is situated in the heart of the Ribble Valley. It is a superb location for a weekend break or even longer. It's location affords access to all the main attractions of Lancashire and the Lake District all of which are within a comfortable travelling distance. The village itself is reputed to be haunted by the Highwayman Ned King and his ghostly spectre has been seen on many occasions riding through the village late at night. One of the most famous landmarks in the village is Stonyhurst College. The College is one of the more exclusive private schools in England. The College is home to a number of priceless artefacts including a 7th century Gospel of St. John. The College has been the setting for many films and books including the film "Three men and a little lady". The play "The Wilmslow Boy" by Terence Rattigan was based on a student at the College. Many famous students have attended the College, including, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes and the setting for "The Hound of the Baskervilles" was indeed Stonyhurst itself. Other notable students include the actor Charles Laughton and JRR Tolkien the author of "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit".
